Science
I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious.
– Albert Einstein

At Whitegrove Primary, our science curriculum is designed to inspire a sense of excitement and curiosity about the natural world. We aim to provide students with a strong foundation in the key scientific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. Our goals are to:
1. Foster Curiosity and Inquiry: Encourage students to ask questions, explore and develop a deep understanding of scientific concepts and processes.
2. Build Knowledge and Understanding: Ensure students acquire essential knowledge and skills, enabling them to understand and explain the world around them.
3. Develop Scientific Skills: Promote the development of scientific enquiry skills, including observing, hypothesizing, experimenting and concluding.
4. Encourage Lifelong Learning: Instill a love for science that motivates students to continue learning and exploring throughout their lives.
5. Promote Environmental Awareness: Highlight the importance of sustainability and the impact of science on the environment and society.
There is a powerful force unleashed when young people make resolve to make a change.
- Dame Jane Goodall
Our curriculum is structured to be progressive, building on prior knowledge and skills as students advance through each year group. We use a variety of teaching methods, including hands-on experiments, outdoor learning and educational visits, to make science engaging and relevant. By the end of their primary education, our students will be confident, independent thinkers who are well-prepared for the next stage of their scientific education.
The natural world is the greatest source of excitement; the greatest source of visual beauty; the greatest source of intellectual interest. It is the greatest source of so much in life that makes life worth living.
- Sir David Attenborough
